The Vegetarian Club of Canton is an Ohio non-profit corporation. We are approved by the IRS as a tax exempt organization under IRS Code 501(c)3.
The History of the Vegetarian Club of Canton

The VCC was organized in September of 1986 by local vegetarian David Kidd. It has grown to receive national recognition for its outreach and practical activism.

​​In the last 32 years, the club has had a significant impact on individuals and restaurants in Stark County, Ohio due to the work of scores of volunteers. One uniqueness of VCC is that its goal from the beginning was to meet at a different restaurant each month for a vegan (non-dairy vegetarian) meal in a banquet setting.

​​By demonstrating examples of healthy vegetarian meals to its members each month, VCC has also educated restaurant owners, food-service managers, chefs, and wait-staff on how to prepare and serve quality vegan meals.

​While the restaurant learning curve is slow, in its first 32 years VCC has served over 14,000 vegan meals and has caused lacto-ovo vegetarian and vegan meals to be placed on local restaurant menus. In addition, during these years VCC has sponsored over 280 local, regional, and national speakers to come to Canton to teach the principles of healthy eating.

In 2015, the VCC caused​​ two new sub-groups to form:

For many years, the VCC has presented a beautiful Golden Carrot Award plaque to area restaurants which have ​supported vegan and vegetarian efforts by adding a special section on their menu or creating a second menu just for vegetarians. We are honored and proud to see how much impact has been made in our local community and are excited to see what the future holds!
