HISTORY
The Vegetarian Club of Canton (VCC) was started in September 1986 by a group of local vegetarian men and women. Most vegetarian groups are content to meet monthly in a member's home for a potluck dinner social. The uniqueness of the VCC is that it sought from the outset to maximize its impact on the community by meeting at a different restaurant each month to enjoy a vegan (non-dairy) meal in a banquet setting. In this way, we are educating the restaurant owners, food service managers, chefs, waiters, and waitresses on how to prepare and serve quality vegetarian meals. Our success has resulted in numerous locally owned restaurants offering vegetarian and vegan meals on their regular menus. Be sure to check out our list of restaurants.
Wherever you are in your dietary and nutritional choices is okay, we welcome everyone. We are here for the purpose of offering information, education, and support for those seeking a plant based diet whether out of curiosity or necessity. Please consider attending one of our meetings and becoming a member.
CLUB GOALS
1. To establish a community support group for people who need to learn how to eat a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.
2. To provide a vegan dinner on a monthly basis as an example of a meatless meal one could prepare at home.
3. To provide a forum for speakers to explore all aspects of healthy vegetarianism as a way of life.
4. To create a core group of well-educated vegetarians in the Stark County area.
5. To influence the local and regional restaurants to be more aware of the needs of vegetarians and vegans in this community.
6. To sponsor educational programs designed to spread and perpetuate the dietary principles of better health and wholeness in life.
